Canterbury Road, Blackburn VIC

About This Project

The architectural brief called for a new, integrated community structure that sits harmoniously within its natural environs and seeks to convey the essence of submission of humility to Allah in its every detail.

The overarching architectural theme responds to a hierarchy of engagement. This is expressed as a union between the two main forms. The glazed form of the general communal area engages with the external environment through a screen with a delicately wrought pattern that is seen in other local, national and international architectural functions and fashion, it is recognisably Islamic but universally utilised.
